Polycarbonate Plastics are Suitable for Many Application
Some of the most popular varieties of plastics are polycarbonate plastics. These are a specific group of thermoplastic polymers that can be easily worked, molded, and thermoformed. They can be found in virtually any industry, and almost everywhere in a home. That said, there is more than one type of this material, and it may sound surprising but not all have been designed to have the same features and level of performance.
If you are looking for a high-performance polycarbonate, a good product is PC 1000. This particular plastics product is a transparent, amorphous thermoplastic that offers incredible high impact strength, in addition to outstanding mechanical strength, and excellent modulus of elasticity. Moreover, this material has remarkable stiffness retention that covers a broad range of temperatures, as it has 290° F HDT (heat deflection temperature) at 264 psi (pounds per square inch). In fact, even at low temperatures this polycarbonate has exceptionally high impact strength.
Additionally, PC 1000 is resistant to acidic solutions, absorbs little moisture, has great creep resistance, good electrical and dielectric insulating properties, and it is physiologically inert, making it suitable for food contact. Overall, this type of polycarbonate is ideal material for a variety of applications, especially transparent structural applications, such as sight glasses and windows. Also, stock shapes constructed of this engineering plastic are machine grade and are ideal for electrical and/or electronic applications.
